What Are We Drinking: Granite Hill Cellars Lodi Zinfandel

Region: California

ABV: 14.5%

Cost: $15

Summary: I am glad I gave the Zinfandel grape variety a fair try, instead of dismissing as another dry red wine. This is the second time I’ve picked a good Zinfandel based off the tasting notes alone. Deep purple in color, this is wine is bold with its full body and flavor intensity. On the nose you get aromas of dark berries, plum and pepper. At first sip, your tongue is greeted is with flavors of dark berries and ripe plums as it goes down, you are greeted with a gently spicy kick with a full but smooth finish. I had this with my Thanksgiving dinner of smoked turkey, greens and mac/cheese.
