I’ve been writing about essential oils for a little while now and love sharing what I learn and herbal blends with my audience. With the increased interest in herbal remedies and essential oils comes questions about usage. I am glad to see people are doing research before trying essential oils because that is the smart way to do it. You don’t just use things because some blogger told you to. You take the knowledge provided and do the homework. It’s smart and safe.

My research shows there are questions about essential oils and herbs, and I’ve decided to take the time to answer a few every week. But if you don’t want to wait until I post questions, you can always email me at the contact information at the end of this article.

How to dilute essential oils?

Essential oils can be very drying on the skin due to their chemical makeup. Some essential oils like cinnamon for example can burn the skin on contact. You should always dilute your essential oils with a carrier oil. Examples of carrier oils are: coconut, grapeseed, olive, hemp, avocado, and castor oil. This isn’t a complete list but it’s enough to get your started.

Essential oils can be used for aromatherapy, a practice that stimulates your senses with aromas of herbs and essential oils. There are essential oils you can use to treat minor ailments, bring comfort and most of all help you relax.

What are some ways essential oils can be used in the home?

There are a variety of ways to use essential oils in the home. Essential oils can be used for laundry, house cleaning, deodorizing, personal hygiene products and more. How to use roll on essential oils?

Roll on essential oil blends are my favorite because they are easy to make and travel with. Roll on essential oils usually come in a 10mL glass bottle. The glass is fairly sturdy (though I wouldn’t drop it intentionally to test the theory). How to use roll on essential oils depend on the blend itself but most of the time you will apply the essential oil on specific parts of your body. For instance, I make an essential oil roll on for migraines, I will apply this essential oil to my temples, nape of neck, and behind my ears. If it’s an essential roll on for anxiety, you usually apply it to nape of neck and both wrists. Some blends you apply to the bottom of your feet. It all really depends on what the blend is for.

What are some safe essential oils for cats?

Some essential oils safe for cats are: Cedarwood, Copaiba, Frankincense, German chamomile, Helichrysum, Lavender, Roman Chamomile, and Thyme. ALWAYS DILUTE YOUR ESSENTIAL OILS BEFORE APPLYING TO PETS.  Do not apply essential oils on your pet’s skin undiluted, as reports show it can be toxic.
